new year's eve 2013

Hello everyone! Yes today is December 31st 2013. The last day of the year! I'm currently lying on my bed right now, in my room in Jakarta, listening to the loud fireworks from both right and left side of my house, non stop since 9pm. Yeap it's new year's eve, and because my house is located kinda in the central of Jakarta, monas and thamrin is nearby, central park mall is as well, also ancol and other places who provide magnificent firework show. Plus some neighbours who are also celebrating. It's so noisy, that's why I can't fall asleep til now. And this is not the first time, I remembered clearly that this is just the same as last year. When I was lying on my bed since half past eight but ended up fell asleep after twelve when it's all has come to the end.

Why am I in jakarta? Yeap as usual I'm going back home this christmas. How's my christmas celebration? Well it's so simple, nothing special, on christmas day me and family simply go to PI to buy mom's winter coat then go home and at night we send mom to the airport cause she's going to HK at midnight.
However, different from my simple christmas, christmas eve in jakarta was being celebrated in a real great way here, I just noticed. Most of the ppl around me are having great dinner, the traffic is depressing, as always, ppl are saying merry christmas at midnight, not on the day. When I went out in the morning of 25th the streets are empty, every are still silently asleep or staying at their house. The worship are mainly done on the christmas eve as well. Don't know if this is the first time that we- or our culture has switched to celebrate mainly on the night. Or it's just me who just notice it
Talking about christmas, of course it's the happiest time of the year for me! Hehe not only as a Christian, but maybe since I live in the UK, or this year, cause in there, it's their biggest day, not in a religious way but in a cultural way. It's their biggest event, like Lebaran in Indonesia. What I like about christmas in western countries is how we take it as a moment to share joy, exchanging gifts with the lovelies and reunited with fam to have a simple christmas dinner at our own house.
Also when during december the streets are being decorated in a very beautiful way, and on the weekend people are out to the shops to buy christmas gifts. queueing in the card shop to buy a single christmas card or with another christmas accessories. Yes that's what I like from christmas in the uk. The culture of giving, celebrating not in religious way but because it's their culture, where all bus and trains are in shutdown on the 25th and 26.
Different with in indonesia, where almost everything is open during christmas eve, the 25th and 26th. Ppl prefer to go to malls and restaurants rather than having dinner at home. When malls are competing to have the prettiest and the most unique christmas tree, rather than decorating the streets it self. No giving presents, and as wev
know. Not everyone are celebrating it in here.  Yeap there are many differences. As a big event, christmas is being celebrated in different ways in the world as the culture goes. The difference in my country is, christmas is a religious event, only Christians celebrate it, other ppl only take it as a national holiday. While in western countries, they are neither Christian or have a religion. But they all celebrate it as one cause it's a culture for them.
Another thing I love from christmas, the end of week 10 when almost everyone are going back home or going on a trip!
In the last one week before going back to jkt, everytime I meet ppl we're exchanging christmas greet, and new year greet. (cause we know that maybe we won't happen to meet again on the day) asking where are u going during the break, saying have a great trip, have a great holiday at home, and safe flight. Yes that simple words do mean a lot to me. I love those days. When the joy of christmas break is there.

Next after christmas, mostly spend my time to be at home, watching dvds, Thor 2 and Ironman 3. Ah these movies are so good, ahahaha. And hanging out with sister and dad only since mom is not here. More quality time with dad. And here comes the new years eve. Went to emporium pluit in the evening. Dinner at xo suki. Went to bookshop to buy a novel then bought a cup of bubble tea. Finally! Hehe, then, going back home

But what I notice again is again the crowd of this city that is so alive. On the way home the road are so packed of ppl riding motorcycle going to ancol or monas idk, to celebrate!

On gajah mada and hayam wuruk street lots of ppl are walking to monas since the governor hold a big new year event in there. Fireworks are everywhere, restaurants are all fully booked and reserved, in monas ppl are gathering, being entertained while waiting for the countdown, some are in the mall, some are working, some are staying at home, some are having a party or a gathering, some are lighting the fireworks. Yeap everyone are having different activities in this one city.
This is only jakarta, imagine other big cities, hong kong, new york, sydney, london and edinburgh. In the big cities ppl are celebrating and gathering. But in some city like my sister's in Adelaide. She simply have a beauty sleep in silent cause she's gonna work again tmrw morning. Yeap it's new year. The biggest event for everyone, cause it's nor cultural or religious event. It's an universal event. No matter how you celebrate it. The time is still ticking, new year is here. 1st of january, here we meet again, counting up from jan to feb to march to april and so on. Time flies, there are times to celebrate, there are times to mourn. There a re good times there are bad times. But anyway, again no matter how and with who and in which situations  u are now in to celebrate this night. Just be glad for this night, take your time to look down, take a rest for a while if u keep looking up during the last one year.

Just be glad that another year has passed. I know some friends are celebrating in a loneliness, far from family and close friends, maybe? I know that feeling, but once again, don't be sad just be glad. It's a good night to look back and be grateful for what we've achieved til now
Look back to appreciate what God's given to us this year. Don't hold you sadness or madness for too long. Cheer up and go entertain yourself to make the night. Only your ownselves who can make you feel happy. So choose to be happy

Time to say goodbye to 2013. Wishing you all many blessing and happiness in the upcoming years. Yeap, happy new year people!!!!!

Best regards,

week 7

So hello again ppl. We're coming to the end of nov alr. How fast time flies ~~
Well, just wanna post smtg called my "virtual twitter"hahahahah act I encountered lots of different feelings this week and feel so pumped to tweet and tweet but don't wanna spam since I've tweeted some of them as well. So I decided just to share in here! And here it is

Feel happy, annoyed, drain, satisfied, sad, disappointed in this one week. Yes yes lots of things happened. Still working on my mngmt essay, gosh have to start and finish it asap jeballl aahahahah, ACF test is coming as well. And then after week 9, I'm all done! Luckily I have a very good management group for the project. We did really well for the last presentation, much better than others although the score isn't being count yet. But it's a good start, so for the final project I don't have to worry cause I've known my members' capacity from now on. Woot woot weekend is here, my essay is waiting, the weather is so cold outside. Back to grab my winter jacket out of the cupboard few days ago.

Then, have a great weekend ppl! Glad christmas is coming real soon X)

Best regards from here

First month in Lancaster 2013

Like I said earlier, a month has passed since my second autumn arrival in the UK. Live in the same building as last year, just move into a higher floor this year. Fortunately I have a great flatmates! (yey) There are 7 of us sharing a kitchen and 8 in the same flat. Even though the kitchen is too small for 7 ppl but yea I'm grateful for this year's flatmates. They're great :) so I don't have to feel bad at my own kitchen and flat for the whole year.
Starting the first term, studying economics (again??!!), management and accounting for managers for this term. I've tried my best, and will keep doing so :)
Hmm what else? Oh ya I was selected to be the treasurer of ppi for this year. And for every meetings, it's me and Kak Qisha who are cooking for it. Last idul adha meeting we made fried banana, fried sweet potato, friend tofu, and apple crumble. It's tiring. Really. But yeah well who else can do it? It's only me, Kak Qisha, Andriana, Bari, and Kak Haikal who are a last year's student, others are new comer.

 PPI Lancaster 13-14

Dinta, me, Kak Qish, Mbak Mira, Sania, and Dea.

Still have 6 weeks left for michaelmas term. Presentation, essay and tests are coming. Have to keep revising *fingercrossed. Andd,, going back to Jakarta on thursday of week 10. And guess what, for easter break I'm going to Australiaa!! hahahaha it was a very unexpected trip. Well still long long way to go though.

I'm going to Manchester as well after finish all tasks for this term. Shopping. Bought mom's Thomas Sabo, Primark, Nandos, and hopefully can meet my jhs's old friend in Man. Will bring a lot of christmas presents this time to home!  And yah, that's all then. Nothing much happened here

And this is what I feel right now

Again, have a great weekend and days ahead ppl

Cheers

Home Made Student Food

Hello again ppl. It's Nov 2nd alr. Time flies ikr, new year is coming! Been a month since I'm back in the UK, it's the end of week 4 today. Just wanna share pics of my self made food, hahahahaha sorry for bad quality pictures. I'm not good at taking photo and neither my phone's camera as as well. And, just can't wait to eat after suffering hunger while cooking so I just took a quick shoot, lol
Well, here are the food:

Telor goreng buncis (bean fried egg) w/ buttery bread. Easy deasy and quick to be made. Use 2 eggs, enough for a person's lunch

one of the best dish I have ever made, lol broccoli with shrimp and mushroom. I use black sauce. Deliciousss :)

brocoli shrimp fried rice!! Made this to finish leftover rice. I put cheese at the end to make it stretchy (?) And I put sambel terasi as well to make it a lil bit spicy

Rice with herbs cheese baked salmon and broccoli. First time bought and cooked salmon. Just randomly add garlic, green onion, onion, olive oil, butter salt and pepper into the salmon to get rid of the smell and then bake it in the oven. And, done!!! easy...

my fav easiest dish, mushroom fried egg with rice. Like I said earlier, easy, quick, delicious, egg is just great

another random dish and a kinda fail one lol. Chicken with carrot and black sauce. Turns out to be so ugly lol. I bake the bread with mozzarella cheese as well

onion chicken pasta. So easy, just stir fry garlic and onion, chicken, then pasta and cheese. Kinda cheesy and oily

 another egg and lontong

onion tomato and mince beef pasta. another easy random stuff :P

I cocked the chick and broccoli with gochujang this time. That's why it's red

apple, banana, and chocolate & white chocolate mouse

herbs and cheese salmon baked, broccoli, and mozzarella bread

I take the leftover salmon from ytd's bake act for this one. Just friend it with onion, salmon and then randomly gojuchang in the emergency lol (ikr it's weird) than add pasta, and cheese. Tara, done!

Basic typical meat-veg dishes. Broccoli with mince beef. But I add some mozzarella cheese at the end to make it more.... em I don't know how to say it lol (act just wanna finish all my cheese)

I made this in the morning when I have to eat smth, open my fridge and found carrot, bean, and chicken. So just boil the veggies, stir fry garlic and onion, add chicken, put vegs, add black sauce and sweet soy sauce. So random. (I don't like veggies that's why I don't like this one) lol

cheese cake!!!! only 1 bucks (pound) for a small round  at Iceland. So cheap. Well it's not really cheese cake though, but the base is crumble. Which is good and bad at the same time. Good cause it taste so good, bad because it has sooo many sugar in the crumble hahaaha. But overall though it's not a real cheese cake, I still love it to fulfill my craving for sweets in a very friendly price
A kind of fail ddeokbukki, lol, but it turns out not to be that failed though at the end :p act I ate ddeokbukki for the first time when Kak Qisha made it for us. Then she gave her leftover rice cake and the sauce for me, tried to make it but turns out to be too watery :( that's why I said it's failed lol, but I manage to drop out some water then add extra gochujang for thicker sauce. Turns out to be not so bad :p but not good enough

As can be seen my food are really sloppy :p I just eat what I feel like want to. Wanna eat sweet, have cake, pancake. A day after I could suddenly feel like eating chips, beef or anything, just randomly.
That's why different from last year my freezer is kinda full this term. Don't know why my appetite is increasing like crazy this month!
And moreover, mostly I just add everything to finish some something usually lol, like the carrot and cabbage, I made ddeokbukki and soup to finish it. And the cheese, bought a bag of cheese so just add it to every dishes lol. Some food as well, just add anything sloppily, cause it's only me who'll eat it so, I just make it randomly

From the photos I could conclude my ingredients of the month: onion, green onion, broccoli. I eat broccoli for like 3 weeks in this month. And I surely add onion and green onion into my every dishes.

You know I just tried to make any kind of things that I'm currently craving for: ddeokbukki, curry, sushi, kolak. Even though I'm not a good cooker (yes I know it) but just tried and eat my kinda fail one (like ddeokbukki) to simply fulfill my craving, lol
Don't ask me why don't u just buy it? Yes I'll just buy if I was in Jakarta or the other city other than Lancaster. But, this is Lancaster baby, the only things you can enjoy without cooking is just.... kebab, fried chicken, greggs pasty, subway, burger, and yes. What can I expect from here? Even if Lancaster has it, I have to go down to city centre. Blah, that's why just experiencing everything, lol

Still have lists of food to be made next:
sushi (just a really basic one)
chicken soup
chicken curry with santan
pengat pisang (kolak)
Nasi uduk
salmon curry
super spicy fried rice
french toast
Food above are my food for this week. Will upload better food next month! I promise, lol

Have a great weekend ppl,

cheers from the cold alr Lancaster

another late post. June 2013

This is a very late post that I wrote around last June, too lazy to post it up and finally here it is the post. Just my opinion and perspectives about Indonesia and the people in the UK. Just wanna share ideas, don't be mad ppl. Cheers,  Jeslyne X)

Last Saturday me with other indo ppl in Lancaster went to Nottingham to visit indofest 2013, one of the biggest event held by ppi uk in University of Nottingham. Well, the event run quite well. A lot of delicious Indonesian food was available for sale with kinda reasonable price. But honestly, when I came and see how the event goes, it doesn’t meet my expectation at all because of several reasons.
First, the different activities that are held located in different locations that are far apart from each other. The sport competition was held far on the other side while the food bazaar was located on the other side therefore make the gap so not all the students can freely meet each other. Secondly, the meeting with other indo’s student in the uk has changed my perception (again) to underestimate some indo ppl (again) what I saw there, are many many ignorant student that has no tolerant or at least basic proper manner as indonesian with others at all. Some of them came wearing high heels, holding high branded bag, carrying status of a student of the university in the UK but have no manner at all even just to queue for food.
Well basically this is one of the things that I don’t like from living in Indo (esp Jakarta). The consumerism of indo’s ppl that is too high, many of them are being obsessed to showing off their wealth and their branded expensive things.
Seeing those indo’s student in Nottingham only makes me feel sick and reminds me of the true nature of jakarta’s ppl. Which is not a good habit, in my opinion. Not only me, Mbak Desy, a student in Lancaster also has the same opinion with me. When I heard about the event, indofest 2013. Where indo’s student from all different cities are given a chance to meet and get to know with each other better, building relations and connections. The fact is? All of them are kinda ignorant, only tend to stay in their group, talking and laughing out loud, and don’t even share a smile with strangers and saying simple word like “thank you” to us at all, even the committees were like that.
However, I know that it’s not sincerely all their fault only. Maybe because I live in Lancaster, with small number of indo ppl in here. So we were so blend with each other, easily get connected with each other and are like family alr because of all the hospitality. That’s why I was expecting to meet the same atmosphere in a bigger indo society event. Though in fact, it was not like that. At all. Yeah I do hope too much about it but seeing this makes me feel disappointed and grateful at the same time. Disappointed to see they act like that, ppi uk always talking about the unity, togetherness of all indo student bla bla bla, though in fact. The reality doesn’t resemble it at all. Grateful, cause I chooses Lancaster university to study in. Overhelming by kind, caring, and great ppl that sharing the same nationality with me. We were close with each other and I love this situation, which is different with in indo where every one was just so individualists and ignorant.
This last 10 months have taught me about a lot of things within ppi Lancaster. I met Teh Vina and Kang Budi, a lovely couple that makes me learns a lot from tehm, Mbak Ara and Dr Anto, another lovely couple whom again makes me learn a lot from them. These 2 families are my role model, especially Mbak Ara that never stops to learn while knowing the limit as a wife, a mother, and a housewife. Hope someday I could be like her, didn’t stop giving inspiration other ppl while growing up my own family as well on the other hand. Met some hardworking and smart students as well. Bari, Andriana, Kak Dhani, Kak Qisha, Kak Haikal, Kak Firza, Mbak Desy, Ci Elyta, and Mbak Latifah. They are fun, always makes me laugh til having stomachache every time we’re hanging out together. Mbak Eny and Mas Mamat, Mbak Mira and Mbak Noor taught me about a lot of things too. Simply love living here surrounded by these lovely, caring and great ppl. I sincerely admire every single one of them. Hope we just can stay here, still remain with the same ppl year by year, but unfortunately some of them are gone alr next year. Sad, but still, good to be able to meet each one of them rather than not at all. I hope the bound within ppi Lancaster can continue being like this. Stay close with each other, having fun together, helping each other, and remain close like a second family in this country.
So thankful to come to here, to meet each one of them and know them a little bit better than before

late post

Hello again from Jakarta, today is September 17th 2013. 2 weeks, on the October 1st I’m going back to Lancaster again. Had a very mixed feelings nowadays, between happy, sad, excited, not ready, afraid, and many other feelings. Feels good to coming back to the second home, a cold rainy small village located in the north west of England where I have to check BBC Weather almost everyday for not to wearing a wrong jacket and outfit, lol. I’m excited to do my uni life as well, learning new things, but again, feel afraid at the same time especially my confidence in study is still low because of looking back at my score in foundation year. But well yeah I should not give up and going back. Will do my best; concentrate more to do my best. I did not aim for a satisfaction and high score. My aim is to enjoy all that I’ve got in the modules, and understand it well, score? Well even pass is good enough for me now. Score is not what I am aiming for, the knowledge, is indeed what I am aiming for.
I am also planning to read more, learn more, to grab as much as general knowledge I can grab, for the goodness of my own future.  I have also had a plan to looking for an internship for next year summer. Looking for a job after graduated without any working experience is not an easy thing to be done. And I do not want my 3 months time to be wasted.
And, about my holiday, Lebaran holiday to Japan was great! I did not like Japan at all 4 moths ago, but now. I definitely in love with this country, the people that are so friendly even though they can not speak English, the infrastructure that are so modern and neat in the cities. 7 days in Japan was great indeed. Maybe I could make a post about Japan separately after this (will do!)
Next, my days in Jakarta? Well it was both good and bad. Lol. Had some trouble, but if we look positively, I learned a lot from all the problems. However, what is changed is, my perspective about Jakarta! I like Jakarta a lot few months ago. But now? I could say, no I don’t like this city anymore L the reason I’m staying here, is only because of my family, and remembering this city as a hometown. The real home. Everything has changed rapidly in a year. The people, the living culture, the habit. When I was in Lancaster last year I used to feel excited to be in Jakarta. Doing this and that, but now? No I don’t feel that excited and even when I’m going home, I think I’ll spend 80% of my time to stay at home. The traffic is so bad, the living cost that keeps increasing, the individualistic of the people. I don’t even mind if I’m not going back home this December. This morning I was thinking like, rather than going to Jakarta, having nothing really specifically to do, just hanging out, etc. I’d rather use my time to read books, entertain my self, trying to write, experiencing new recipes, and enjoying the cold Lancaster in December, lol.
Well maybe I miss home but it’s simply because of my family, mom and dad.
The conclusion is, I do not like Jakarta anymore, hahah..
And, yeah, that’s all for now though. My time is very limited now, listing up things to do, people I have to meet, food I want to eat, buying things I want to bring, choosing clothes to be brought, paying college fee, airplane ticket, send email to storage company, etc. Seems a lot, huh? Yes it is indeed; still have more things to do. Will be living the next 13 days fully, lol. Make sure nothing is being left. Then on the first day of Oct I’ll have my flight to Manchester, arrived on Wed morning, and here comes the big day! Have more and more things to be done on that day! You guys will not believe if I tell you what are the things I should do on a day (I’m serious lol) And, a new year in Lancaster! Like what I’ve said earlier, saying good bye to lovely and great people, but there are a lot of newcomers. Hope the people are great and we can continue the close relationship within PPI Lancaster. Welcoming a new year and chapter of life. Had a lot of lessons to be learned this month. Hope I can continue doing well. Finger crossed! And for everyone too. Have a great days ahead people!!!

Summer Holiday!

Hello again people. Been ages since my last post. And here it is, we're coming to the end of July alr. How fast time flies ~~ Right now I'm in Jakarta alr. Yeap, I ended up didn't make a post after I received the final ISC result, lol. But, after all. I passed! So my place in LUMS this year has been secured, and I'll officially start the first year this October.
Well let's start from June again. What happened in these last 2 months? First, 8th of June. My birthday! PPI Lancaster had a farewell event on that day and I had my econ exam as well on the 8th of June. Well, it was a very good day, indeed. =)) After that, all of my exams are all finished, and I travelled to 3 cities while waiting for the result. Nottingham, York, and Liverpool. All of these 3 cities are beautiful, and I had a very good time in there. Especially in Nottingham, where I go with friends from PPI Lancaster, had a great time with them :) Eat a lot, shop a lot, spend a lot of money, lol =))
After that, my result is out, I'm going back to Jakarta. And here I'm with my family again now :) Met my long time no see sister, Yessica. Hanging out, etc.. Andd this lebaran holiday, me and mom ended up going to Japan for 9 days on 7th of August, can't wait!!!
We're gonna visit Disneyland, Disney sea, and Universal Studio. My days in Jakarta? Well, so far so good. Kinda miss Lancaster with all its goodness. We're all human who are hardly ever feel satisfied. While I'm here, I miss Lancaster as second home. But when I was there, I'm always desperately missing Jakarta. It's true what people always said, definition of 'home' is definitely relative.
Talking about Jakarta, my 'likeness' to this hometown is decreasing nowadays don't know why. This city is moving way too fast, and way too packed too.

new face of PPI Lancaster page in fb. Love it!

 going back homeee

one day traveling mate in York. Chery, Emily and Theresa

Betty's British Afternoon Tea! Costs about £18 but it is totally worth the price!!! A must try when you visit York ;)

at Betty's

in front of Nottingham Castle. One of the best castle in the UK I could said. Such a pity I didn't get in. Will do in the next visit!

Chery, Kak Qisha and me at Indofest 2013, Nottingham Univeristy.

Robin Hood statue! Robin Hood is originally came from Nottingham =)
